Geraniums are versatile flowers that can be grown outside or inside. They will often be used in hanging baskets or as a border plant. They have five petals and will usually be red, purple, blue or white. Here are the steps to growing healthy geraniums:
- They need soil that drains well. This applies whether they are being grown indoors or out of doors. Use soil and peat to get the right balance.
- Give geraniums plenty of sunlight. Ideally, they should have 6-8 hours a day, so plant them out of any shade.
- Geraniums thrive in warm conditions. Wait until frosts have gone before you plant them.
- Mulch can be used when planting to help with moisture levels.
- Plant geraniums at least 8 inches apart.
- Water the plants regularly once the soil begins to feel dry.
- Remove the dead heads from old flowers.
