Keeping your Lawn Healthy all Year Round

Your lawn plays an important part in how your garden looks, and even how your home looks. The modern-day image of a beautiful home and garden features a stunning green lawn adorned with a variety of flower-filled borders. The good news is that keeping your lawn healthy doesn’t have to be hard work. Many people think it will require hours of intensive labour, but they couldn’t be more wrong. All you need to do is adjust your routine to make sure your lawn stays green, healthy and vibrant all year round. grass-1402694

Here are our top tips for maintaining a beautiful green lawn:

  1. Don’t cut your grass too short. Have your lawnmower on the longest setting that you can use and make sure the blades are nice and sharp so as not to damage the grass stems. Don’t mow your grass whilst it’s wet either, or you could end up causing even more damage.
  2. Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. These will decompose and help to give your lawn the nitrogen it requires. It will also help to slow the evaporation of water, keeping your lawn moist.
  3. Pull weeds out by hand. It’s better to avoid using harsh chemicals on your lawn wherever possible – keep it natural. You should be able to control weeds quite easily as long as your grass is kept healthy and mowed regularly.
  4. Use a good quality fertiliser. The best times to fertilise grass is during the spring to encourage root growth and during the autumn to help repair damage from the hot summer weather.
  5. Aerate your lawn. This helps the oxygen get into the roots so that grass stems will grow strong and robust. It also helps fertiliser to penetrate the soil and creates space for roots to continue growing.

Follow these tips to grow a beautiful healthy lawn that will be the envy of your neighbourhood.
